KATHLEEN GWOZDZ
A little about Kathleen...
At the age of twelve, I discovered a bookcase in my Aunt Lynn's home, full of horror and thriller novels. The first book I pulled off the shelf was 'Carrie' by Stephen King. I was absolutely hooked; there was no turning back. From that point on I searched out books that would put me on edge. Over time I developed a taste for many genres, but if I'm being honest, nothing climbs to the top of my reading list faster than a good thriller.
When it was time to choose a path, my passion for reading pointed me straight toward an English Literature degree at St. Bonaventure University. It was there that I discovered Henry James's ghost story, 'The Turn of the Screw' and Wilkie Collins's detective novel, 'The Moonstone', adding mysteries to my list of favorite genres. When it came time to write, it made perfect sense to me to incorporate those elements of mystery and horror into 'I Could Ruin You'. Who doesn't love a good mystery where revenge hides in a mean girl's closet with a big knife?
Fun fact: When I was a kid, my father encouraged my sister and I to watch Sherlock Holmes movies and so it felt good to have one of my main characters, Detective Tess Sherman, obsess over and become a hard-core groupie for the British sleuth. The Creature from the Black Lagoon was another one I took inspiration from. You could say that the real villain in my story has some similar traits with the creature. He's creepy and he's the guy you don't see coming.
I live in New Jersey with my husband, our three, college/post college aged kids and our dog, Gus . Their support in my writing endeavors has been a gift.
